ICTHINGS.COM TRACKS SIX PEAKS CHALLENGE

This year’s Thames Water team in the Six Peaks Challenge, the fundraising event organised by the UK’s water industry to raise money for the international charity WaterAid, received some unusual support from ICTHINGS.COM.

The event, that requires participants to visit the summits of the highest peaks of the six regions of the British Isles within 72 hours, was monitored from start to finish using the innovative ICTHINGS.COM tracking system, so Thames Water employees could follow the progress of their team in real-time via the Internet.

Ian Nicholson from Thames Water said: “This is a gruelling challenge which involves walking 50 miles, 20,000 feet of ascent, driving 1,000 miles and two sea crossings, all within 72 hours. It was a great boost for the team that they knew that their efforts were being tracked every inch of the way by supportive work colleagues back in the office.”

Teams walk from sea level (or nearest) to the summit of each of the peaks: Snaefell, Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis, Slieve Donard and Corran Tuathail, traveling between the mountains by road and sea. Each year the challenge aims to raise £50,000 to help WaterAid provide some of the world’s poorest communities with safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene education.

Tom O’Connor, Director at ICTHINGS.COM commented: “The ICTHINGS.COM tracking system measures only 16cm by 8cm and possesses its own in-built power source with a battery life of up to two years. Weighing just 420 grams, it was the ideal solution to be carried inside a rucksack and track the whereabouts of the Thames Water team at all times.”

ICTHINGS.COM provides a standalone tracking solution that can locate powered and low/unpowered mobile assets independently or as part of a wider asset protection programme. Monitoring resources can be a problematic and expensive process, but not with the ICTHINGS.COM solution. It provides total visibility at a touch of a button – via the Internet, mobile phone or existing fleet and asset management tools.
